Flight operations at Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi have been disrupted due to severe cold and persistent foggy conditions prevailing across Jharkhand. Poor visibility during early morning and evening hours has adversely affected air traffic, leading to the cancellation and diversion of several flights operating to and from the state capital.

According to airport authorities, the dense fog coupled with operational constraints forced airlines to take precautionary measures in the interest of passenger safety.

Several flights were cancelled in advance as visibility levels dropped sharply, while some aircraft were diverted to other cities after being unable to land at Ranchi.

The situation caused inconvenience to passengers, many of whom were seen enquiring about flight schedules and alternative arrangements at the airport.

The affected services included multiple IndiGo flights connecting Ranchi with major cities such as Delhi, Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

Flights on the Kolkata–Ranchi–Kolkata and Delhi–Ranchi–Delhi routes were cancelled, while services operating on the Pune–Ranchi–Bengaluru and Hyderabad–Ranchi–Hyderabad sectors were diverted to alternate airports due to low visibility at Ranchi.

The ongoing weather conditions are part of a broader cold wave affecting the entire state of Jharkhand. The biting cold has disrupted daily life, with dense fog blanketing the region during morning and evening hours, slowing vehicular movement and affecting normal activities.

Meteorological experts have indicated that such conditions are likely to persist for the next few days.

Airport officials have advised passengers to check the status of their flights with the respective airlines before proceeding to the airport. With visibility remaining uncertain, further disruptions to air services cannot be ruled out in the coming days.
