The Haryana Police have solved two major criminal cases from September and October 2025 by using advanced fingerprint forensics and the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS). “This achievement reflects a major step in Haryana Police’s technology-driven investigation system and modern policing,” a police spokesperson said.
The first breakthrough was in a murder case in Rohtak. On June 15, Dayanand, son of Prahlad, filed a complaint at Sadar Police Station after his son Satish — the only brother to four sisters — did not return home. He and his nephew later found Satish unconscious at the village government hospital, and doctors at PGI Rohtak declared him dead.
During the scene inspection, the fingerprint team found pieces of a broken liquor bottle. They suspected that the bottle might carry chance prints. The expert developed the suitable prints, photographed them and uploaded them to NAFIS. A detailed analysis matched them with the prints of Naresh, son of Rajroop, who already had a criminal record. After the match was confirmed, the police traced the accused and the Station House Officer was informed.
In another case, SCRB supported Chandni Bagh Police Station in Panipat to solve a theft reported on August 21 by Sonu of Sector 12. Chance prints collected from the scene were uploaded to NAFIS, where they matched with Sunny, son of Vinod Lodha. He was quickly traced and identified.
“Through NAFIS, rapid identification of suspects has become possible, making the investigation process more scientific and result-oriented,” the spokesperson added. DGP OP Singh has also emphasised using technology while keeping the human side of policing strong.
