Veer Soren, the 19-year-old grandson of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, died in Manali on Tuesday after he complained of a severe headache and lost consciousness. He had returned from visiting high-altitude areas with his friends. Veer had travelled to Manali in Kullu district along with his friends. They had visited Solang and Hamta Pass before returning.
In their statement to the police, his friends said Veer suddenly complained of a severe headache after coming back from the high-altitude areas. They gave him some medicine. However, he soon lost consciousness and fell from the bed. They also told police that froth appeared from his mouth while he was being rushed to the hospital.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Manali K D Sharma said that no external injury marks were found on the body. It was later handed over to his grandfather. The family said they do not suspect any foul play and declined a post-mortem examination.
The exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed. However, Sharma said the possibility of high-altitude sickness, including hypoxemia, cannot be ruled out. Earlier, the Civil Hospital in Manali informed police that a young man had been brought dead. Doctors tried to revive him by administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed grief over the death. "We are deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden demise of Veer Soren, the grandson of Champai Soren, in Kulu. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace at the feet of Marang Buru, and may the grieving family be granted strength to bear this unbearable sorrow. In this hour of profound grief, we stand with them," Soren posted on X.
