Two terrorists linked to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed in an encounter with security forces in a remote area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, according to officials.
The Army said the terrorists were killed during ‘Operation Trashi-I’ in the general area of Passerkut in the Chatroo belt. Arms and ammunition were recovered from them, including two AK-47 rifles.
In a post on X, the Army’s White Knight Corps said the joint operation was launched after receiving credible intelligence inputs from the J&K Police, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and its own sources. The operation aimed to track and neutralise terrorists operating in the Kishtwar region.
“Following successful contact established earlier, troops of CIF (Counter-Intelligence Force) Delta, in close coordination with police and CRPF, re-engaged the terrorists today at approximately 11 am in challenging terrain,” the Army’s White Knight Corps shared in its social media handle.
The Army said the troops displayed tactical precision and strong coordination during the operation. Two terrorists were successfully neutralised at the encounter site. “The hunt continues — those who seek to disturb peace will find no sanctuary,” the Army said.
According to initial reports shared by officials, both the slain terrorists were Pakistani nationals and members of the banned JeM outfit. Officials said the terrorists were hiding inside a mud house at the foothills and opened fire when search parties approached. This led to an intense gunfight. They added that search operations in the area were still underway.
The Chatroo forest belt had witnessed nearly half a dozen gunfights between terrorists and security forces last month, which led to the death of a soldier and a terrorist. With the killing of the two terrorists on Sunday, security forces have eliminated six JeM terrorists in separate encounters in the Jammu region this year. Earlier, two terrorists were killed in Udhampur and one in Kathua district.
