Security forces launched a search operation after the sighting of a suspected Pakistani drone near a forward village along the International Border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, officials said.

Officials said a drone-like object was noticed hovering over Nanga village in the Ramgarh sector late Friday, triggering alarm in the border belt. Shortly after the sighting, security forces and other agencies launched a joint search operation to comb the area and ensure there was no airdropping of any payload like weapons, logistical devices, food, or other essential supplies from across the border.

Drone sightings have increased in recent months, and dozens of incidents have been reported earlier. These drones are often used to drop supplies for terrorists operating near border regions.

Additionally, these drones are also used to divert security attention, though these tricks have largely been rendered useless against the vigilant border patrol troops.

The search operation was underway when the last reports were received, officials said, adding that security has been heightened in adjoining villages as a precautionary measure.

Earlier, on August 29, security forces had launched a similar operation following multiple drone sightings near the Pukhrani area of the Nowshera sector on Thursday night, triggering an alert among security forces.

As per officials, the movement was noticed around 11 pm, after which troops in the sector were immediately put on alert. They said surveillance in the forward area had been intensified to monitor any further activity.

Terrorists and their handlers are finding it difficult to infiltrate Jammu and Kashmir due to intensified border security.
