As many as 10 government websites in Uttarakhand were targeted in a cyberattack, prompting authorities to launch an investigation and strengthen cybersecurity measures to prevent further breaches.

Officials said the affected websites experienced disruptions after being targeted by unidentified hackers. Technical teams were immediately deployed to assess the extent of the attack, restore services, and secure the digital infrastructure. Initial efforts focused on isolating the affected systems to prevent the incident from spreading to other government networks.

According to officials, cybersecurity experts are examining server logs and digital evidence to determine the nature of the attack, identify possible vulnerabilities, and trace its origin. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the attackers or the specific methods used in the breach.

Government departments have been instructed to remain vigilant and enhance security protocols while the investigation continues. Officials said precautionary measures, including increased monitoring of network activity, security audits, and system updates, are being carried out across government platforms to minimise the risk of further cyber incidents.

The affected websites are being restored in a phased manner after undergoing thorough security checks to ensure they are safe for public use. Authorities said efforts are underway to resume normal services at the earliest while maintaining the integrity of government systems.
Officials have not confirmed whether any sensitive government data or personal information was compromised during the attack.

They stated that a detailed forensic analysis is in progress and that further information will be shared once the investigation reaches a conclusive stage.

The incident has once again highlighted the growing threat of cyberattacks targeting government digital infrastructure. With public services increasingly being delivered through online platforms, experts have stressed the need for stronger cybersecurity frameworks, regular vulnerability assessments, employee awareness training, and advanced threat detection systems to safeguard critical government networks.

State authorities said they are coordinating with cybersecurity agencies and technical experts to strengthen the security of government websites and prevent similar incidents in the future. The investigation into the cyberattack remains ongoing.
