Amritsar Police has busted a cross-border arms smuggling module. Five people have been arrested, and eight sophisticated pistols along with live cartridges have been seized, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday.
Initial inquiry shows that the accused were in touch with a foreign-based smuggler using virtual numbers, Yadav shared in a post on X.
The group was reportedly receiving weapons and drugs through drones from across the border. These were further supplied to criminal groups in Punjab.
A case has been registered at the Chheharta police station in Amritsar.
Police said further investigation is going on to trace other links in the network and identify more people involved.
