Concerned over the recent developments taking place in the Katra Congress, it has sought an emergency meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to discuss the detention and the treatment of the recently detained protesters by J&K police.

 

The party has also conveyed to the authorities that a delegation of top Congress leaders has desired to visit Katra to meet the agitating people and family members of the detained political and civilian activists.

 

In this regard, an urgent meeting of the senior leadership of Congress was held here.

 

The meeting was chaired by the chairmanship of PCC president Tariq Hameed Karra to discuss the current situation.

 

This follows the detention of several political and other leaders of different shades who are supporting the ongoing agitation and bandh in Katra against the proposed ropeway project.

 

The Congress leaders expressed serious concerns over the recent reports of ill-treatment to the detained activists and protesters.

 

Karra said there have been reports that detained leaders are being denied the basic facilities and kept in overcrowded and unhygienic conditions.

 

Among those who attended the meeting were Tara Chand, Raman Bhalla, Th Balwan Singh, Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, former minister Yogesh Sawhney, I/C PCC HQ Ved Mahajan, Th Balbir Singh, Ex-MLA, and Rajnish Sharma, Treasurer.

 

Furthermore, Sinha said on Tuesday, “A high-level committee is in place, and its doors are open for talks with all stakeholders on the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ropeway project.

 

It has already held talks, and it is ready to meet those agitating against the project. All issues can be settled through talks. There should be no politics on the project,” he said.

 

“As far as the concerns of shopkeepers and other stakeholders on the old track, the Lieutenant Governor assured upgradation of facilities on the Ban Ganga track, including lighting, laser lights, a sound show, etc., which will boost the pilgrimage within three years.

 

If the yatra doesn’t increase, we are going to take a guarantee for providing compensation, which includes Rs 50,000 and alternate livelihood arrangements,” Sinha said.
