The residence of former Jharkhand minister Yogendra Sao was demolished on Thursday at Jordag village under Keredari block in Hazaribagh, amid tight security arrangements and the presence of a large police contingent.

The demolition follows a prolonged dispute between the state-run NTPC and the former minister over land acquisition and compensation. Sao, along with his wife Nirmala Devi, had been staging a sit-in protest at the site for several days, demanding a revision of the compensation amount offered for their land.

Authorities carried out the demolition using three excavators in the presence of the Keredari Circle Officer and NTPC officials. According to officials, the compensation for the land had already been determined, and after Sao declined to accept it, the amount was deposited with the Tribunal Court as per procedure.

Officials further stated that the ongoing expansion of the Chatti Bariatu Coal Mining Project was being hindered due to the dispute, prompting administrative intervention. They added that multiple rounds of discussions were held in an attempt to resolve the matter amicably, but no agreement could be reached. The standoff had also led to several confrontations between Sao and the administration in recent days.

Reacting to the development, Sao’s daughter Amba Prasad took to social media, condemning the action as unjust and announcing plans to pursue legal recourse. She expressed confidence in the judiciary and said the family would approach the courts to initiate action against those responsible.
