Cold weather conditions persisted in Haryana and Punjab on Sunday, with Narnaul recording the lowest temperature at 6.8°C. Fog affected several areas in the early morning.
In Haryana, temperatures dropped to 8°C in Karnal, 8.3°C in Ambala, 8.8°C in Hisar, 8.9°C in Bhiwani, 9.3°C in Gurugram, and 10.3°C in Rohtak, as per the meteorological department.
In Punjab, Bathinda recorded a low of 7.4°C, while Amritsar saw 7.9°C. Other areas included Gurdaspur at 8°C, Patiala at 8.4°C, Faridkot at 8.5°C, Ludhiana at 8.6°C, and Pathankot at 9.3°C.
Chandigarh, the shared capital, recorded 8.4°C and saw sunny weather after several days of fog and clouds.
Chandigarh revises school timings due to cold weather
In response to the cold spell and fog, the Chandigarh administration has revised school timings. Physical classes for students up to Class 8 have been suspended, and online classes will be held from 9 am onwards.
For students in Classes 9 to 12, physical classes will start at 9:30 am and end at 3:30 pm, with staff timings adjusted as needed. Schools holding pre-board exams will start at 9 am.
The revised timings will remain in effect until January 11. The Indian Meteorological Department recorded Chandigarh’s minimum temperature on Saturday at 9°C.
