A Class 12 student was shot dead by unidentified assailants near Mehta Chowk-Mehsmipur Road in Amritsar, leaving his family devastated and triggering panic in the locality. The incident occurred late on Saturday night under the jurisdiction of the Mehta police station.
The deceased teenager has been identified as Amarjot Singh.
According to officials, unknown gunmen attacked Amarjot, killing him on the spot before fleeing the scene.
Police initially received information about a road accident, but on reaching the spot, they found gunshot wounds on the body, confirming death due to a firearm.
Initial reports suggest the victim was shot twice from close range, which caused the fatal injuries.
Senior police officials, including Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sohail Qasim Mir, visited the site and took stock of the situation. Amarjot’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
SSP Qasim Mir said, “The motive behind the crime is not yet clear. We are investigating all possible angles. Various teams have been deployed to identify the accused and establish the circumstances leading to the incident.”
