Tension gripped Karimpur in West Bengal’s Nadia district after an alleged bomb attack on BJP workers on Thursday afternoon, leaving at least five people injured, according to police.

The incident reportedly took place in the Sahebpara area of Karimpur-II block, where a group of BJP workers and supporters were returning home after attending a public welfare camp organised by the newly formed state government. According to local accounts, unidentified assailants allegedly hurled multiple crude bombs at the group, triggering panic in the area.

Several individuals were injured in the blasts and initially rushed to Nadidanga Primary Health Centre. As the condition of some victims worsened, they were later referred to Berhampore Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.

Police from Thanarpara Police Station reached the spot soon after receiving information and cordoned off the area. A search operation has been launched, and an investigation is underway to identify those responsible and ascertain the motive behind the attack.

The incident has triggered a political confrontation between rival parties. The BJP has alleged that the attack was carried out by miscreants backed by the Trinamool Congress (TMC). However, the TMC has denied any involvement, with local leaders claiming that the allegations are politically motivated.

Arjun Biswas, BJP president of Nadia North organisational district, termed the incident a “premeditated attack” and demanded strict action against the perpetrators. “We demand that the culprits be identified immediately and given exemplary punishment,” he said.

No local TMC leader has issued an official statement on record regarding the allegations.

Security has been tightened in Sahebpara and adjoining areas to prevent further escalation. The situation remains tense, with police maintaining a strong presence in the region.
