Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday claimed that his party knows who the “Mir Jaffars” were during the Rajya Sabha polls that cost them the fourth seat on Friday.

He said they were betrayed in the Rajya Sabha elections and that those involved have exposed themselves in front of the people.

The BJP winning the fourth seat has triggered a political storm in Kashmir, with people demanding the National Conference (NC) unmask the legislators who cross-voted in favour of the BJP.

During his media interaction, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said he knows all those who betrayed the party but doesn’t want to name them, as their names are already known to almost everyone now.

He also thanked the members, especially those from the Congress, for voting in favour of the NC candidates. “I am satisfied that not even a single vote from the NC went in vain,” he said.

He said those who had been present in their meetings, enjoying their food, should have openly come up with their decision to support the BJP.

“Like the Handwara MLA, who opted to abstain as he didn’t want to harm the BJP, these members too should have openly supported the BJP,” Omar said.

The leaders who were elected as Rajya Sabha members will raise their voices in Parliament. “They will raise their voices on restoration of statehood and special status, besides raising voices on different issues,” he said.

On Friday, the National Conference won three Rajya Sabha seats, while the BJP pulled off a surprise victory on the fourth seat with the help of cross-voting.
