The Jharkhand BJP unit has lodged a complaint seeking an FIR against Minister Hafizul Hassan Ansari for allegedly disrespecting the national anthem. The incident occurred during the swearing-in ceremony of Jharkhand Cabinet ministers at Raj Bhawan on July 8.

 

BJP Yuva Morcha official Rahul Dubey filed the complaint, accusing Ansari of failing to show proper respect during the anthem, as he was caught on camera adjusting his clothes. This behaviour, according to Dubey, was disrespectful.

 

During the oath-taking ceremony for Chief Minister Hemant Soren's Cabinet, the national anthem played while all attendees stood at attention. A video surfaced showing Ansari adjusting his clothes during this time.

 

In response, a BJP delegation led by state legal cell convenor Sudhir Srivastava visited Argora police station in Ranchi to apply an FIR against Ansari. Srivastava emphasized that the video clearly shows Ansari deliberately adjusting his gamchha, which he claims is a violation of the national anthem's etiquette.

 

Srivastava stated that standing still for the 52-second duration of the anthem is mandatory, and any movement is a breach of the Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act, 1971. Violations of this act can result in up to three years of imprisonment.

 

According to Article 51-A of the Constitution, all citizens must respect the national symbols, including the anthem. Srivastava remarked that Ansari’s actions have brought shame not only to Jharkhand but to the entire nation. The police have been provided with the video as evidence of the minister's behaviour during the anthem.
