Abhishek Debroy has been appointed as BJP Tripura state president as part of a nationwide organisational reshuffle by the party leadership ahead of upcoming political activities.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday appointed MLA Abhishek Debroy as the new president of its Tripura unit, replacing Rajib Bhattacharjee, in a move aimed at strengthening the party’s organisational structure ahead of upcoming political activities in the state.

The decision was announced through an organisational notification issued by BJP National General Secretary and Headquarters In-charge Arun Singh. The party said the appointment had been approved by the central leadership and took immediate effect.

Debroy, who represents the Matabari constituency in the Tripura Legislative Assembly, was elected as an MLA in the 2023 Assembly elections on a BJP ticket. He is expected to play a key role in expanding the party’s organisational reach and mobilisation efforts in the state.

Significantly, Bhattacharjee, a veteran BJP leader from Tripura and the outgoing state president, was not retained in the post despite his long organisational experience in the state. The development comes a day after Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha met BJP national president Nitin Nabin in New Delhi.

The leadership change is part of a wider reshuffle within the BJP across multiple states. Alongside Tripura, the party also announced new state presidents for Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.

In Punjab, Kewal Singh Dhillon, a former Congress leader and ex-MLA from Barnala, has been appointed state chief. In Haryana, BJP leader Archana Gupta has been given charge of the state organisation, while Union Minister of State and East Delhi MP Harsh Malhotra has been named president of the party’s Delhi unit.

The party said the appointments were made under the direction of the national leadership as it seeks to further consolidate its organisational network across regions, including the Northeast.
