Bihar will be governed on the “Modi-Nitish model”, newly sworn-in Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said on Wednesday, a day after Nitish Kumar resigned, triggering a leadership change in the state.
Syed Ata Hasnain administered the oath of office and secrecy to Choudhary, who becomes the first BJP chief minister of Bihar.
“I will immediately start working for the prosperity of the state. It should remain clear that Bihar will continue to be governed on the Modi-Nitish model,” Choudhary said after the ceremony.
Congratulatory messages poured in from NDA leaders, who expressed confidence that the state would see accelerated development under his leadership and contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
Nitish Kumar, now a Rajya Sabha MP, said in a post on X that “under your leadership, Bihar will develop rapidly and join the ranks of the most developed states in the country”.
Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, however, struck a sarcastic note. “Congratulations to Samrat Chaudhary ji on fulfilling his pledge today to remove the ‘elected’ chief minister Nitish Kumar ji from power, and heartfelt best wishes on becoming the ‘selected’ chief minister,” he said.

Yadav added that despite 21 years of NDA rule, Bihar remains below the national average on several NITI Aayog benchmarks, urging the new chief minister to work independently.
BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi said Choudhary would help realise the Prime Minister’s vision for “Viksit Bharat 2047”, adding that Nitish Kumar had laid a strong foundation of governance.
Union minister Chirag Paswan said NDA allies would work together to build on that foundation, while Jitan Ram Manjhi termed the development a “new era” in Bihar politics.
Giriraj Singh said “Nitish Kumar is still in the driver’s seat”, with Choudhary tasked with carrying forward his vision.
Union minister Nityanand Rai said Bihar would move forward on the development path with the Centre’s support.
Choudhary’s father, Shakuni Choudhary, described his son’s elevation as “God’s grace”, crediting his rise to the support of Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Nitish Kumar.
