Madhya Pradesh minister Kailash Vijayvargiya on Monday said the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) projected victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections was a “huge gift” from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the people of the country.
Citing Election Commission trends, he said the BJP was leading in 192 seats in West Bengal, while the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) was ahead in 96 constituencies.
“The BJP’s victory in West Bengal is the result of the magic of Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and Home Minister Shah’s strategy. This victory is a huge gift from Modi and Shah to the people of the country because under Trinamool Congress rule, West Bengal was becoming a centre of anti-national activities,” Vijayvargiya told reporters in Indore.
He also compared the electoral outcome to major national policy decisions, saying it was as significant as the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), and efforts towards the elimination of Naxalism.

Vijayvargiya, who has earlier served as the BJP’s general secretary in charge of West Bengal, alleged that during the TMC’s tenure, illegal activities had increased in the state.
“During the TMC’s tenure, terrorists, illegal weapons, and counterfeit currency were entering the country through West Bengal,” he claimed.
He further alleged that the TMC and its allies were protecting “anti-national elements” for political gain and accused the state government under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of weakening internal security.
“West Bengal, under Mamata Banerjee, had become a gateway to compromise the country’s internal security,” he said.
The remarks came as counting trends showed a strong lead for the BJP in the state, according to Election Commission data.
