The flood situation in Assam showed significant improvement on Sunday with water levels receding rapidly across the state, officials reported.

The India Meteorological Department's Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati has not issued any new warnings, only forecasting some rain in the Barak Valley and a few districts of central Assam.

However, a report from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Saturday night confirmed one fatality in the Gogamukh revenue circle of Dhemaji district. This brings the total death toll from this year's floods, landslides, storms, and lightning to 107.

The report indicated that over 8,40,000 people have been affected by the floods across several districts, including Barpeta, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karimganj, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, and South Salmara.

Cachar district is the worst hit, with nearly 1.5 lakh people affected, followed by Dhubri with almost 1.27 lakh people and Nagaon with more than 88,500 people suffering from the floodwaters.

To address the crisis, the administration has established 221 relief camps and distribution centers across 13 districts, currently accommodating 72,046 displaced individuals.
