Andhra Pradesh has secured India’s largest integrated lithium-ion battery gigafactory, with Waaree Energies announcing an investment of Rs 8,175 crore in a landmark clean-energy project at Rambilli in Anakapalli district.
The greenfield facility will have a capacity of 16 GWh and is expected to generate around 3,000 direct jobs. It will cover the complete battery value chain — from advanced cell manufacturing to battery packs and large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), positioning the state at the forefront of India’s energy storage revolution.
The project has received in-principle approval from the Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Board chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
Welcoming the investment, IT and Industries Minister Nara Lokesh said the project marked a defining milestone in the state’s clean-energy journey.
“Waaree’s gigafactory will be India’s largest battery manufacturing plant and will play a critical role in reducing import dependence while strengthening domestic manufacturing in a strategic sector,” Lokesh said.

The proposed facility aligns with the state government’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy, under which Andhra Pradesh has already attracted substantial investments in renewable power generation and solar manufacturing. The Waaree project represents the next phase — backward integration into advanced energy storage, a key pillar for sustainable energy ecosystems.
Large-scale battery manufacturing is considered crucial for accelerating renewable energy expansion, enabling electric mobility and ensuring grid stability. The move is also expected to enhance India’s strategic manufacturing independence amid growing global competition in clean technology supply chains.
With the gigafactory, Andhra Pradesh reinforces its ambition to become a premier destination for next-generation energy industries, offering policy support, infrastructure readiness and faster execution timelines.
The investment is being viewed as a major boost to India’s self-reliance drive in clean-energy manufacturing, while strengthening the state’s position as a hub for integrated renewable and storage solutions.
