Several students were hurt on Thursday after Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Students' Federation of India (SFI) i activists clashed at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU).
The incident took place when both groups had gathered on campus to welcome other students. An argument broke out between them, which soon turned violent. Activists attacked each other, leaving more than six students with injuries on their heads, hands, and legs. Police officers present at the scene intervened to bring the situation under control.
A video of the fight also surfaced on social media. It showed activists hitting each other while police tried to stop them.
ABVP members claimed that while they were standing near the university gate, some SFI activists passed derogatory remarks and then attacked them. This, they said, sparked the argument that later turned into a brawl.
SFI members made counter-accusations against ABVP. They alleged that ABVP members were disturbing the campus environment and were responsible for starting the clash. Police confirmed the incident and said a case has been registered at the Boileauganj police station. They added that an investigation into the matter is now underway.
