The Himachal Pradesh government has released Rs 8.97 crore as rental assistance for families whose houses were completely damaged or made unfit for living due to heavy monsoon rains last year, according to officials.
The government said this financial help is meant to ensure that affected families do not struggle to find rented accommodation. Under the assistance plan, 88 affected families in urban areas will receive Rs 10,000 per month each, while 2,817 families in rural areas will get Rs 5,000 per month each.
Officials said that the monsoon disaster in 2025 affected around 16,488 families across the state. During this time, 2,246 houses were completely destroyed and 7,888 houses suffered partial damage.
A government spokesperson added that the first installment of Rs 141.61 crore has already been released to beneficiaries for rebuilding their damaged houses.
