Rajasthan's Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), in coordination with Haryana Police, has seized nearly 90 kg of opium worth around Rs 4.5 crore, arresting two after a multi-state operation. According to police, the consignment was being transported in a truck from Manipur and was expected to be delivered in Rajasthan via transit points in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, with a key handler based in Jammu.
The truck was tracked by ANTF teams from Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar, and Nagaur districts. However, it stopped abruptly near Sirsa in Haryana, just before entering Rajasthan, raising suspicion among the operatives monitoring its movement.
According to officials, coded conversations between the accused and their handlers hinted at a possible compromise of the operation. The code word "Srinagar" was used to refer to Jodhpur, and instructions were allegedly issued to halt movement and possibly destroy the consignment midway after suspicion arose. Acting swiftly, Inspector General of Police (ANTF) Vikas Kumar coordinated with the Sirsa police to intercept the vehicle. A joint operation was carried out, leading to the seizure.
During initial inspection, the truck appeared empty. However, a detailed search revealed a concealed compartment welded beneath the vehicle using iron plates. Upon dismantling the chamber, police recovered 95 packets containing approximately 90 kg of opium.
The arrested accused have been identified as Kishnaram, a resident of Pali district, and Sukhram, who is believed to be a key link in the network.
Police said the operation involved coordination across five states - Jammu, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan. Officials described the seizure as one of the largest in recent times.
Further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and trace the full supply chain, police added.
Authorities have appealed to the public to share any information related to narcotics trafficking, assuring that informants' identities will be kept confidential.
