India’s Vaibhav Sooryavanshi rewrote the U-19 World Cup record books on Friday, smashing the second fastest century in the tournament’s history with a blistering 55-ball hundred against England.
The 14-year-old opener went on to hammer 175 off just 80 balls, becoming the youngest centurion in U-19 World Cup history. His innings also included the fastest 150 ever recorded in U-19 cricket, reaching the mark in 71 balls, surpassing England’s Ben Mayes, who had taken 98 balls at the same venue earlier in the competition.
Only Australia’s Will Malajczuk, with a 51-ball hundred against Japan in Windhoek, has reached three figures faster in the tournament.

Sooryavanshi was relentless from the outset, bringing up his half-century in 32 balls before racing to his next fifty in just 23 deliveries, leaving the England bowlers with little respite.
He added 142 runs for the opening wicket with captain Ayush Mhatre in just 19 overs. Mhatre departed soon after completing his half-century, scoring 53 off 51 balls.
The Indian opener also set a new record for the most sixes in a Youth ODI innings, surpassing his own previous mark of 14 sixes against the UAE in Dubai last December. His tally of 22 sixes in the current edition of the tournament has eclipsed South Africa’s Dewald Brevis, whose record of 18 maximums had stood since 2022.
