Indian athletes Neeraj Chopra and Yash Vir Singh secured a silver and bronze medal, respectively, in the men's javelin throw at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. This was Yash Vir’s debut, while Neeraj, after recovering from an injury, made his season-best with an 85.83m throw. Vir bagged third place with an 85.41m throw.
On winning the silver medal in the men's javelin throw final at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Indian athlete Neeraj says, "It brings back memories of the Asian Games, where Kishore and I both won medals. I’m really happy that Yashvir achieved a personal best at such a crucial moment. It feels great to be on the podium together. It’s always a joy to hear the national anthem play. That said, I also achieved a season-best, and my comeback is progressing well. There are more competitions ahead, so I’m very happy..."

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “An outstanding Silver for Neeraj Chopra in the Men’s Javelin event at Glasgow! He has once again demonstrated remarkable consistency, composure and spirit. His successes make every Indian proud. My best wishes to him for the endeavours ahead.”
President Murmu also congratulated Tejaswin Shankar for winning the bronze medal in the decathlon, describing his achievement as "another historic first for Indian athletics".

With this outstanding performance, you have become the first Indian to win a medal in the decathlon at the Commonwealth Games. The nation is immensely proud of this exceptional achievement. The President also lauded India's performance in judo and congratulated Yamini Maurya for winning the silver medal in the women's 57 kg event. "India's remarkable run in judo continues!
