For nearly a quarter of a century, Joshna Chinappa has worn the India colours on some of the biggest stages in Asian sport. Yet, even after six Asian Games appearances, the feeling remains unchanged.

"It is always a pride and honour to represent the country," Joshna said. "Every time you wear the India jersey, it is special." That pride will take on added significance later this year when the Indian squash veteran becomes the first Indian athlete to represent the country at seven consecutive Asian Games. Remarkably, it was a milestone she was unaware of until informed during the interview.

"Oh yes, I never knew that," she said with a laugh. The achievement is another chapter in a career defined by longevity, consistency and an enduring desire to compete for India. Joshna's Asian Games journey began at Busan 2002 and has since spanned Doha 2006, Guangzhou 2010, Incheon 2014, Jakarta-Palembang 2018, Hangzhou 2023 and now the 2026 edition.

While the record underlines her place among India's most enduring athletes, Joshna prefers to focus on the present rather than dwell on personal milestones. "There are many youngsters in the side and I am sure we can make it to the podium," she said.

The upcoming Games will see the 39-year-old shoulder a dual responsibility—competing as one of India's leading players while also guiding a new generation eager to make their mark on the continental stage. Among those she highlighted was teenage sensation Anahat Singh, widely regarded as one of India's brightest prospects.
