Indian para-shooters win five medals in WSPS World Cup II in Changwon

In all the Indian para-shooters won two gold, two silver and one bronze on Sunday in the second World Cup of the year that started in the Korean city on April 22 and will continue till May 1.

The gold medals for India came through Nihal Singh and Bhakti Sharma in the Mix 10m Air Pistol event and Sanjeev Kumar Giri in P1 Men’s 10m Air Pistol.


Indian para-shooters excelled on Sunday and claimed five medals including two gold medals in the World Shooting Para Sports (WSPS) World Cup in Changwon, South Korea.

 

In all the Indian para-shooters won two gold, two silver and one bronze on Sunday in the second World Cup of the year that started in the Korean city on April 22 and will continue till May 1.

 

The gold medals were claimed by Nihal Singh and Bhakti Sharma in the Mix 10m Air Pistol event, along with Sanjeev Kumar Giri in the P1 Men’s 10m Air Pistol category. Their exceptional skills and determination propelled them to the top of their respective events, showcasing India's strength in para-shooting.

 

Adding to India's medal haul, Bhakti Sharma secured silver in the P2 Women’s 10m Air Pistol event, while the trio of Akash Kumar, Bhatiwal Vikash, and Sandeep Kumar clinched silver in the P5 10m Air Standard Pistol Mixed SH1 event. 

 

Akash Kumar also clinched a bronze medal in the P5 10m Air Standard Pistol Mixed SH1 Individual event to make up India’s tally on Sunday.

 

With 125 shooters from 27 nations vying for top honors, the competition at the second World Cup of the season has been intense. This event holds particular significance as a preparatory platform for the upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, with athletes fine-tuning their skills and strategies ahead of the prestigious event.

 

For many European competitors, this World Cup serves as a crucial warm-up before the European Championships in May, highlighting its importance within the international para-shooting calendar.
