India’s promising young shuttlers kept their winning rhythm alive at the Badminton Asia U-17 and U-15 Championships 2025 in Chengdu, China, with several impressive performances ensuring a strong national presence in the Round of 16 across categories.

Lakshya Rajesh and Diksha Sudhakar led India’s charge in the U-17 girls’ singles category. Lakshya looked composed as she defeated Chinese Taipei’s Kuan Yi Lin 21-17, 21-11, while Diksha fought back brilliantly after losing the opening game to overcome China’s Luo Ya Ru 17-21, 21-16, 21-11. Among the boys, Jagsher Singh Khangurra produced a confident display to notch up a straight-game win over China’s Zhang Yu Feng, 21-14, 21-17.

India’s doubles teams continued to show promise. The U-17 girls’ pair of Deepak Raj Aditi and P. Vriddhi recorded a hard-fought 22-20, 21-12 win against Malaysia’s Sue Mei Teoh and Zi Qing Wan. Meanwhile, in the U-15 mixed doubles, the unseeded Indian duo of Hemanth Sri Sammetla and Sharayu Ranjane stunned the fifth-seeded Singapore pairing of Ng Yu Ze and Loo Kit Rei Chara 21-9, 21-11 to move comfortably into the next round.

Top-seeded Indian girl Shaina Manimuthu reaffirmed her dominance with a clinical 21-6, 21-10 win over Malaysia’s Jing Er Tan, while Anvi Rathore, Wazir Singh and SL Dhakshan Sugumaran also progressed after registering straight-game victories in their respective matches.

According to a release from the Badminton Association of India (BAI), the second day’s results underscored India’s growing stature in junior badminton, with the young contingent displaying maturity, tactical discipline, and a hunger to perform at the continental stage.

India have enjoyed steady success in this tournament over the past two editions, winning one gold and one bronze in 2024, and a gold, silver and bronze in 2023, both hosted in Chengdu. This year, a 36-member Indian squad is representing the nation across both age groups, aiming to add to the country’s growing medal tally in junior badminton.

With several pre-quarterfinal berths already secured, India’s young shuttlers will look to maintain their momentum as the competition intensifies in the coming days.
