Sunita Kejriwal, Kalpana Soren speak out for jailed husbands at INDIA bloc Ranchi rally

Voices of dissent being suppressed, Delhi CM's food being monitored, they allege.

- Ranchi - UPDATED: April 21, 2024, 08:05 PM - 2 min read

"Everything the Delhi CM eats is monitored in Tihar jail," Sunita Kejriwal alleged while speaking at the INDIA bloc rally in Ranchi on Sunday (PTI).

The much-awaited appearance by Kalpana Soren and Sunita Kejriwal, wives of jailed political leaders, former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, went along expected lines at the mega INDIA bloc rally at Ranchi in Jharkhand on Sunday, with both women attacking the ruling BJP for attempting to silence voices  of dissent.

Sunita Kejriwal claimed there was a conspiracy to kill her husband and that every meal of his in prison "was being monitored."

Reading out a letter by Hemant Soren, Kalpana Soren alleged non-BJP states were being singled out for unjust treatment. "This country has not been given to us in charity, many martyrs have sacrificed their lives for India," she insisted.

Lashing out at the Central government, calling them tanashahs or dictators, Sunita Kejriwal said it was shameful that cameras monitored the Delhi CM as he ate his meals. A diabetic on 50 units of insulin for the last 12 years, she said he was being denied vital treatment.

They want to kill him, she added.

Calling Arvind Kejriwal "brave," and "a lion,"  Sunita Kejriwal, a former IRS official who voluntary retired in 2016, said he was worried about the country even when he was in jail.

Kalpana Soren, in her speech, said, "People had been cunningly shown impossible dreams and fooled. The women, youth and tribals have been cheated. The voices of the opposition have been suppressed. If we want our rights we are imprisoned."

There was a conspiracy before the elections to suppress the voice of the opposition by throwing leaders in jail on the basis of unfounded allegations, she read from Hemant Soren's letter.

Expressing solidarity with former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, Sunita Kejriwal said both he and Kejriwal had not been proven guilty.

Was Kejriwal at fault, she asked, for "providing good education, health facilities?"

For an IIT graduate who could have lived abroad, Kejriwal had instead chosen to put his life at stake for the people of Delhi. As a revenue official he had taken leave to do public service, she added.
