Jammu and Kashmir National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah has called for resumption of talks between India and Pakistan.

He said the new Pakistani government was keen to foster a peaceful relationship with India.

He proposed that both countries should work together to resolve all outstanding issues, including terrorism and Kashmir, and added that dialogues were the only way forward to bring peace to the region.

"The government in Pakistan, I think they want to have a peaceful atmosphere with us. Let’s open the door to them. And let us revive SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation). SAARC was made for the good of this entire region," Abdullah said.

In an interview with a local media outlet, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said military action cannot resolve the issues between India and Pakistan, adding that dialogue was necessary between the two nations.

However, "We still have problems with our neighbours. These problems will not be solved by military action… Unless we talk to our neighbours, we cannot solve them. The terrorists are coming through our borders, and they will continue to come.

"Whichever government will be there tomorrow, will have to face the same thing… We need to come out of these situations… We have a major Yatra coming (Amarnath Yatra)," he said.

While responding to the question related to the recent Reasi attack he said, “We Kashmiris are not responsible for these things."

On June 9, nine people were killed and 42 others injured in an attack on a bus carrying pilgrims to the Shiv Khori shrine in Reasi district.
