On the Human Rights Day, Engineer Abdul Rashid, an MP from J&K on Wednesday observed hunger strike in order to draw attention of the government towards what the party says ‘unaddressed issues’ related to human rights in the UT of J&K for a long time’.
Awami Itihaad Party Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said today that Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid observed one-day hunger strike on International Human Rights Day, in line with the announcement he made earlier in the Lok Sabha.
Inam said the MP Engineer Rashid started the strike this morning before attending the Parliament session, using the symbolic step to remind the government of the unresolved concerns of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and the need for a humane and sincere approach in addressing them.
The MP Engineer Rashid, who had already informed the Lok Sabha of his plan to fast on December 10, said the strike is meant to draw attention to the decades of pain and unaddressed grievances in J&K. In Parliament, he urged both Treasury and Opposition benches to respond with a humane and responsible approach instead of allowing political considerations to overshadow public suffering.
The party noted that Engineer Rashid’s decision reflects his continued commitment to peaceful democratic expression and his appeal for meaningful engagement with elected representatives and stakeholders to address long-standing issues.Meanwhile, NC MP Mian Altaf has made major allegations against construction companies, stating that construction firms and industrialists are misusing their influence over the government.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Member of Parliament Mian Altaf said that we cannot expect good work from such companies. He added that a tunnel is being constructed in Jammu and Kashmir, but the company involved is so influential that, in the name of the tunnel, not only has the environment been severely damaged, but these companies are also failing to provide employment to local people.
