Hooda vows to reinstate job quota for athletes if Cong wins

"Congress had given appointments to players on senior posts like DSP under the 'bring medals, get post’ policy. However, the BJP stopped this policy as soon as it came to power and took away the right of appointment to high posts from the players. BJP is discriminating against the players to such an extent that it has not given promotion to the players who became DSPs during the Congress tenure till date", he stated.

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda along with Deepender Hooda met Olympic medalist wrestler Aman Sehrawat on Tuesday and pledged to reinstate the 'Get Medal-Get Post' policy and 3% job quota for athletes if the grand old party returns to power in Haryana.

Felicitating Aman, Deepender said that he not only made Haryana but the entire nation proud by winning the Olympic medal.

Targeting BJP, the Congress leader said, "BJP government is not serious about sports in Haryana. Haryana has got only 3 per cent share from the budget of 'Khelo India'. Haryana, which brings the most medals in the Olympics, got only Rs 66 crores, while the BJP government has given Rs 400-500 crore to Gujarat and UP".

He then highlighted Congress' past achievements, including appointing over 750 athletes to government posts and offering cash prizes up to Rs 5 crore.

Hooda accused the BJP of discriminating against athletes, allocating only 3% of the 'Khelo India' budget to Haryana, and neglecting sports infrastructure. He also attacked the government's handling of women wrestlers' protests and an alleged sexual harassment case involving a BJP minister.

“The BJP left no stone unturned in insulting national and international level players. The women wrestlers who were sitting on a dharna demanding justice were dragged on the road by the government and the government could not even get justice for the coach who had accused a BJP minister of sexual harassment,” Hooda stated.

"It is clear from all these things that the BJP government does not want to make the youth of Haryana sportspersons. This government only wants to make the youth drug addicts. That is why instead of sports, the government is promoting drug addiction," he said.

“Liquor shops are being opened in every street, locality and colony. Dry drugs like chitta have reached every village today. Because the government is giving protection to drug dealers and smugglers. But this will be curbed if the Congress government is formed. Saving the youth of Haryana is the aim of the Congress,” he promised.
