Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda has lashed out at the BJP government in Haryana for making "baseless announcements" on the Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantee for farmers.

Hooda said the BJP has become "nervous" after seeing a clear defeat in the upcoming assembly elections and is trying to "mislead" farmers with false promises.

He pointed out that the state government's announcement of MSP on all crops is not within its jurisdiction, as MSP is announced by the central government.

The Congress leader also criticised the BJP government for not making any provision for an MSP guarantee in this year's budget, despite its promises. He demanded that the central government bring a bill in Parliament to guarantee MSP, as announced by the Congress party.

"The truth is that the central government has not mentioned the MSP guarantee anywhere in this year's budget, nor has it made any provision for it in the budget. Then on what basis is the state government making such an announcement? If the BJP is even slightly serious about MSP, then the central government should immediately bring a bill in the Parliament as per the announcement made by the Congress, which should have a provision for MSP guarantee. The attempt to mislead the farmers through mere verbal promises will not succeed," he stated.

Hooda also highlighted the BJP government's "anti-farmer" policies, citing the increase in MSP during the Congress government's tenure compared to the BJP government's tenure. He accused the BJP of trying to "abolish" MSP and said the party's promises to farmers are mere "verbal assurances" that will not succeed.

The Leader of the Opposition also pointed out that no crops will come to the market in the next month, making the BJP's announcement on MSP "unjustified" ahead of the elections.

“The Congress government of Haryana had increased the price of sugarcane from 117 to 310, the highest in the country, that is, it increased by 165 percent. But BJP has increased the rate of sugarcane by only 19 percent. Similarly, the MSP of every crop increased 2-3 times during the Congress government. Whereas during the BJP government, there was not even a one and a half times increase,” he added.
