BJP pledged to give every woman Rs 2,100 during the election campaign, but many beneficiaries were excluded by the government's restrictive conditions after it came to power, said MP Deepender Hooda on Sunday.
“In a similar manner, the BJP manipulated voters prior to the elections by providing 75% of the population with ration cards, which they later cancelled even more quickly. It's concerning that incorrect mapping is even cancelling the ration cards of families who are actually eligible. Approximately 12 lakh ration cards have been cancelled thus far. In the meantime, the public's burden has increased due to increases in the cost of petrol, diesel, electricity, and tolls,” the MP claimed.
Hooda highlighted that the people of Haryana had made every effort during the Assembly Elections, further claiming that in the previous year’s Lok Sabha elections, the Congress secured the second-highest vote share since 1984 and emerged as the largest opposition party ever.
“The people’s sentiment was clearly in favour of change, but the BJP manipulated this sentiment and captured power through money-driven electoral tactics. Congress will firmly check the BJP’s arrogance in Haryana and play the role of a responsible and constructive opposition. If people’s rights are violated, Congress will raise its voice for every section of society, from the streets to the Parliament,” he cited.
On the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, Hooda sounded the bugle and announced that he would hold the government accountable for its failures as the state government completes the first year of its tenure. He said the people of Haryana had wanted a Congress government to lead the state on the path of development.
“They sought change, permanent jobs for the youth, and MSP guarantees for farmers. However, the BJP, in collusion with the Election Commission, resorted to coercion, bribery, discrimination, and punitive tactics,” the MP added.
He recalled that on the eve of the elections, Nayab Saini ji had declared that the BJP would form the government and that the opposition was finished.
“Yet the people elected a strong opposition,” he said, and added, “The BJP came to power by managing public sentiment, and with power, it grew arrogant, turning a blind eye to the people and their interests”.
Maharishi Valmiki laid down the principles of religion, dignity, and truth through the Ramayana, which continues to inspire society even today, said the MP Deepender Hooda, while paying floral tributes to the revered author of the Ramayana, at a programme organised in Israna to mark Lord Valmiki's Prakatutsav.
He added that Congress is following the ideals of the Ramayana and is committed to walking the path of truth and struggle.
Followers of Maharishi Valmiki have always stood firmly with the Congress, the MP said.
