Congress heeds cancel-culture; nation deserves good opposition: PM Modi

PM Modi said, ‘The nation deserves a good opposition but the Congress also failed in that, not letting other opposition voices to come out’, adding the party is following “cancel culture”, which seeks to oppose and cancel every development and success of the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi takes a dig at Congress, says nation deserves a 'good, healthy opposition.'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday during his reply to the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address, taking a dig at the Congress party, specifically in reference to Rahul Gandhi stated that relaunching one name every time will lead to the closure of INC, citing, “Ek hi product baar-baar launch karne ke chakkar mein, Congress ki dukaan mein tala lagne ki naubat a gye hai.”

Further verbally attacking the grand old party, PM Modi said, ‘The nation deserves a good opposition but the Congress also failed in that, not letting other opposition voices to come out’, adding the party is following “cancel culture”, which seeks to oppose and cancel every development and success of the country.

"In Congress, there are many talented people but the party did not let them stand. I always wished that the Country needed a good Opposition. We can see the situation of Adhir Babu. The situation is that (Mallikarjun) Kharge has shifted from this House to that House (Rajya Sabha), and Ghulam Nabi Azad has shifted out of the party. They all became the victims of 'parivarwad'. Attempts are being made to launch a product again and again. Congress shop is on the verge of closure in an attempt to launch the same product again and again. Congress trapped within a family,” the prime minister stated.

"Congress has developed a 'cancel culture' - we say Make in India, Congress says cancel; we say Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Congress says cancel; we say Vocal For Local, Congress says cancel, we say Vande Bharat train, Congress says cancel; we say new Parliament building, Congress says cancel. I am surprised because these are not Modi's achievements, these are the achievements of the country," PM Modi said.

Talking about dynastic politics, PM Modi said, “Which dynastic politics do we talk about? If more than one person in a family, on their own strength and with the support of the public, makes progress in the political field, we have never called it dynastic politics. We call it dynastic politics when a party is run by a family when the party prioritises members of a family when family members make all the important decisions of the party.”

Responding to the debate in Lok Sabha on the Motion of Thanks on President's Address, PM Modi said some opposition leaders were keen to change their parliamentary seats, while some others were planning to move to Rajya Sabha.

"I appreciate the resolution the opposition has taken. Every word of their speeches has confirmed my confidence and that of the country that they have resolved to stay there (in the opposition) for a long time," Modi said and blamed the Congress for the opposition's present condition.

"For several decades you were sitting here (in the treasury benches), but now you have resolved to stay there (opposition benches) for several decades. The people will bless you and keep you there. You will achieve greater heights and will be soon seen in the public galleries (of the House)," the prime minister said.

"It's election time, and you should have worked a bit harder, brought something new, and sent a message to the people. However, you failed miserably. Let me teach you this very thing. The Congress party is responsible for the current condition of the opposition," said PM Modi.

He then expressed confidence that the NDA will get more than 400 seats and the BJP will win at least 370 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.

PM Modi said he was convinced that the opposition parties have lost the courage to contest elections and have resolved to stay on the opposition benches for a long time.

"I can gauge the mood of the nation, it will definitely give NDA more than 400 seats and the BJP at least 370 seats," the prime minister said replying to the debate in Lok Sabha on the Motion of Thanks on President's Address.
