The ongoing CBSE Class 12 re-evaluation process has emerged as a key concern for students who have qualified JEE Advanced 2026 and are seeking admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), as revised board examination scores could determine their eligibility during the ongoing counselling process.
The issue comes amid complaints from students regarding technical glitches on the Central Board of Secondary Education’s re-evaluation portal, including difficulties in accessing evaluated answer sheets, obtaining photocopies and logging into the system.
According to CBSE, the re-evaluation and verification portal had received more than 56,000 applications by 9.30 pm on June 3. The board also said its systems successfully blocked a 3.8 million-packet denial-of-service attack on the website by Wednesday afternoon.
“The CBSE technical teams are proactively monitoring performance and introducing refinements to deliver a smoother, faster and more seamless experience for students,” the board said.
The re-evaluation process assumes particular significance for candidates who have cleared JEE Advanced and are preparing to participate in the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process. While qualifying JEE Advanced is mandatory for admission to IITs, candidates must also satisfy the Class 12 eligibility criteria prescribed by the institutes.
Under the admission rules, students must secure at least 75 per cent aggregate marks in the Class 12 examination, while the minimum requirement for SC, ST and PwD candidates is 65 per cent.
The aggregate is calculated using marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, along with one language subject and one additional subject with the highest scores.
For students who narrowly missed the required aggregate, the outcome of the re-evaluation process could prove decisive. Any increase in marks following verification or re-evaluation may help them meet the eligibility threshold for IIT admissions.
The CBSE re-evaluation portal became operational on June 2, a day after it was originally scheduled to open. The timeline coincided with the commencement of JoSAA 2026 registration and choice filling, adding to concerns among students awaiting revised scores.
Candidates who appeared for improvement examinations can use the higher marks obtained across attempts to satisfy eligibility requirements, provided all marksheets have been issued by the same examination board.
With JoSAA counselling already underway, students awaiting revised CBSE results are closely monitoring developments, as any delay in the re-evaluation process could create uncertainty during the seat allocation cycle for IIT admissions.
