United States Ambassador to India Sergio Gor landed in Leh on Thursday after adverse weather conditions delayed his onward flight from Srinagar, according to officials and sources familiar with the visit. The envoy had arrived in Srinagar earlier and was scheduled to proceed promptly to Leh. However, poor weather disrupted flight operations in the region, forcing him to remain at Srinagar Airport for a period while authorities monitored conditions.
Once the situation improved, Gor boarded a direct flight to Leh and completed the journey without further incident.
Upon arrival at Leh Airport, the US Ambassador was received with heightened security arrangements. A large convoy escorted him from the airport premises as he began the next phase of his itinerary in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
This marks Ambassador Gor’s first official visit to both Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh since assuming his post. The trip forms part of his broader programme of engagements across the region, aimed at deepening diplomatic and bilateral understanding between India and the United States.
During his stay in Srinagar, Gor held a meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The two discussed a range of issues of mutual interest.
Speaking afterwards, the ambassador described the interaction as “very good” and indicated that further discussions would follow in New Delhi and Washington. Gor also expressed Washington’s desire to strengthen its engagement with Jammu and Kashmir. He described the Union Territory as an important part of India and spoke positively about its natural beauty and strategic significance.
His arrival in Leh signals the continuation of this regional tour. Officials note that the visit underscores ongoing diplomatic outreach and the importance both countries attach to sustained high-level interaction in the northern territories.
