Uddhav Thackeray Calls On PM Modi To Intervene In Quota Dispute.

Uddhav Thackeray, President of Shiv Sena (UBT) and former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and resolve the ongoing Maratha-OBC caste quota dispute that has been causing significant unrest in the state.

In a recent media address, Thackeray emphasised that the authority to amend reservation limits does not fall under the state government’s purview but is solely within the jurisdiction of Parliament. He stressed that the state government alone cannot address the complex issue of quotas and that it is imperative for the Prime Minister to take decisive action.

Thackeray noted that previous attempts by state governments, such as Bihar’s effort to extend reservation beyond the prescribed limits, had failed in court because such decisions require central government approval.

He urged community leaders from various groups, including Marathas, OBCs, and Dhangars, to appeal directly to the Prime Minister for a resolution. Thackeray assured full support for whatever decision Modi makes on this matter.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader criticised the MahaYuti ruling coalition, questioning why they have not resolved the reservation issue despite being in power for over two years. He suggested that instead of blaming the Opposition, the state government should engage in serious discussions with caste leaders to reach a consensus.

Thackeray’s call for intervention follows demonstrations by Maratha groups outside his residence, demanding clarity on Shiv Sena (UBT)’s position regarding the caste quota dispute. Following these protests, Ambadas Danve, Leader of Opposition in the Council, met with the protesters to discuss their concerns.

Uddhav Thackeray is advocating for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s involvement to address the Maratha-OBC reservation issue, arguing that only a central-level intervention can provide a lasting solution to the ongoing conflict in Maharashtra.
