Three members of a family, including a seven-year-old girl, were killed on Thursday morning after their motorcycle collided head-on with a trailer, police said.
The accident occurred on the Maharajganj–Nichlaul state highway near Baluhighush village in Maharajganj when the couple was taking their sick daughter to a hospital.
Police said the impact was severe; 25-year-old Saleha Khatoon and her daughter Shahzadi (7) were run over by the trailer, while Naushad (28) was flung several feet away. After being alerted, police rushed to the scene and took the victims to a hospital, where doctors declared all three dead.
Additional Superintendent of Police Siddharth said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Preliminary findings suggest overspeeding may have caused the accident. The trailer driver has been detained and further investigation is ongoing.
