Sounding the alarm after suspicious movement of some men was detected in Pathankot, authorities have decided to shut down several educational institutions, including those run by the Army – including the Army public and goodwill schools and Kendriya Vidyalayas.

Schools located along the Jammu-Pathankot highway were shut as a precautionary measure as   security personnel remained on high alert after some men were spotted moving around suspiciously on Tuesday.

Intelligence agencies issued specific warnings about potential terror attacks on schools, leading to the decision to shut down these institutions, local media reported.

This development follows the arrest of two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) involved in supporting terror activities.

Kathua Police, in an ongoing effort to counter terrorism, apprehended two OGWs from PS Malhar.

These individuals were found to have deliberately withheld crucial information from the police.

Defence officials stated that, given the terror threats, security forces advised school authorities to close the institutions to ensure the safety of children.

"Due to increasing terrorist activities in the Jammu region, the local administration and security agencies have jointly decided to close all Army and Kendriya Vidyalaya schools until further notice," an official said.

The decision aims to  ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school staff from potential threats.

The closure of these schools is temporary, and they will reopen once the situation stabilises. For now, the administration and security agencies are prioritising the safety of children.

At least a dozen Army schools, including those in Sunjuwan and Domana and along the highway, were shut for the day as a precaution.

Following intelligence inputs about a terror strike, a high alert has been issued for all defence installations along the Jammu-Pathankot national highway.

Some parents confirmed receiving messages from school authorities about closures for administrative reasons, with classes shifting to online mode.

In a recent incident, a soldier lost his life in a gunfight with terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.

Lance Naik Subhash Chander was killed during a gunfight in the Battal area of the Krishna Ghati sector as the Army thwarted an infiltration attempt.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha stated that “Pakistan is attempting to disrupt peace in Jammu, but assured that any drop of blood shed by terrorists will be avenged.”
