Rajnath Singh To Inaugurate Key ICG facilities In Chennai.

The Union Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, is set to inaugurate a new Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Chennai on Sunday. This state-of-the-art facility marks a significant step forward in enhancing maritime safety and regional coordination.

The event will also see the inauguration of two other key facilities: the Regional Marine Pollution Response Centre (RMPRC) in Chennai and the Coast Guard Air Enclave (CGAE) in Puducherry.

The inauguration is expected to be attended by various dignitaries from both Union and State organisations, highlighting the importance of these new facilities in bolstering maritime security along the Indian coastline.

The new MRCC in Chennai will become a critical hub for coordinating maritime rescue operations, particularly for mariners and fishermen in distress. This advanced facility is a testament to the ICG’s commitment to safeguarding lives at sea and ensuring swift responses in emergencies.

The ICG Regional Marine Pollution Response Centre (RMPRC), located at the Chennai Port premises, is the first of its kind in the region. This facility will play a crucial role in coordinating responses to marine pollution incidents, especially in the event of oil and chemical spills.

By providing a centralised point for managing such emergencies, the RMPRC aims to protect the marine environment and the coastal states adjoining these waters.

In addition to these developments, the Coast Guard Air Enclave in Puducherry represents a major milestone for the ICG. This facility will significantly enhance maritime security along the Puducherry and South Tamil Nadu coastlines.

The Air Enclave will be equipped with Chetak and Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Squadrons, boosting the aerial surveillance and response capabilities of the ICG. This will enable quicker and more effective responses to any maritime security threats or emergencies in the region.
