The nation was led in the celebration of Holi on Wednesday by President Droupadi Murmu, who sent out heartfelt wishes to all the citizens of the country with the hope that they will be filled with joy and prosperity. In her message on X, the President mentioned that Holi has the unique ability to spread seeds of optimism and love in society, and that this colorful festival is a vital bridge in consolidating the unity and brotherhood of India. It was her hope that this festival will bring about a spirit of service to create a more developed nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also joined the celebrations with a spirited message, highlighting how the "festival of colours" fundamentally alters the atmosphere with a fresh surge of energy. He also commented on the "great speciality" of Holi, "the way in which the sprinkling of colours in every nook and corner of the country is reflected as a symbol of joy," and the way in which people of all ages are "filled with a sense of exuberance and joy."

Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, seized the opportunity to comment on the festival as a "living testament to India’s thousand-year-old legacy." Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister praised the present generation for "taking forward our legacy in the same fervour and enthusiasm as our ancestors." The Chief Minister also drew a parallel between the cultural pride and legacy reflected in the festival and India’s national progress, crediting the Prime Minister for "merging our legacy with modern India." The Chief Minister also observed, "As we immerse ourselves in this holy festival, we can sense the confidence in our self-reliant and completely developed India.”

Holi, which traditionally heralds the arrival of spring and the harvest, remains one of the most significant dates in the calendar. Rooted in the mythological triumph of good over evil, the festivities began on Tuesday evening with the ritual lighting of the Holika Dahan bonfire. While most of the country is awash with colour today, this year’s "Festival of Colours" is notably being observed over two separate days in various regions due to local traditional timings. From the streets of Delhi to the temples of Mathura, the air remains thick with the scent of ‘gulal’ and the sounds of community celebration.
