In a significant political resurgence, Chirag Paswan, the two-time MP from Bihar and chief of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), assumed the role of Minister of Food Processing Industries on Tuesday.

The 42-year-old Paswan, who has firmly established himself as the "true" political successor to his late father, Ram Vilas Paswan, expressed his dedication to harnessing the vast potential of the food processing industry.

"There is immense potential in the food processing sector, and a 100-day plan will be formulated after discussions with ministry officials," Paswan remarked, highlighting the sector's critical role in benefiting farmers directly.

He stressed the necessity of expanding processing units nationwide, especially in regions reliant on agriculture.

Acknowledging India's current underperformance in food processing, Paswan pledged to make substantial efforts to elevate the sector.

"The ministry's impact depends on its leadership. I have been entrusted with a significant responsibility, as it involves millions of farmers. I have consistently advocated for processing units in Hajipur, which will secure better income for farmers," he stated.

Paswan assumed office following a small religious ceremony, attended by his mother and other family members.

His rapid political ascent was highlighted by his party's triumph in the recent Lok Sabha elections, where it secured all five seats it contested as part of the NDA alliance.

This achievement has positioned Paswan as a prominent new Dalit leader in Bihar politics, surpassing many veteran politicians.
