INDIA bloc MPs protest during PM's address in Rajya Sabha, Later Walks Out.

The session in the Rajya Sabha today witnessed a significant political drama as opposition MPs from the INDIA bloc staged a walkout during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's reply to the debate on the ‘Motion of Thanks’ on the President’s address.

The walkout was a result of the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, allegedly being denied the opportunity to speak. Protesting against this, opposition members engaged in loud sloganeering before exiting the chamber.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar strongly criticised the opposition MPs, stating that their actions were a direct challenge to the Constitution. He accused them of violating the spirit of the Constitution and disregarding their oaths of office.

Dhankhar expressed his disappointment, saying that Kharge had insulted his office through the walkout and that the opposition had made a mockery of constitutional values.

He emphasised that the LoP had been given ample time to speak without interruptions, and by leaving, they showed disrespect not only to him but to the Constitution itself.

Dhankhar's condemnation was clear and stern. He asserted that there could be no greater insult to the Indian Constitution than the conduct displayed by the opposition MPs.

He urged them to introspect and reflect on their duties, highlighting that the Constitution is a guiding document for living, not just a symbol to hold. He expressed hope that the opposition would reconsider their actions and adhere to their responsibilities more faithfully in the future.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address, also took a firm stand against the opposition. He accused them of not having the courage to hear the truth.

Modi stated that the country was watching how those who spread lies were unable to face the reality and were avoiding the answers to the questions raised during the discussions. He accused the opposition of insulting the traditions of the Upper House by their actions.

The day began with the Rajya Sabha condoling the loss of lives in a stampede incident during a ‘Satsang’ in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh. LoP Kharge called on the government to enact legislation to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.

Overall, the session was marked by intense debates and strong statements from both the government and the opposition. The walkout by the opposition MPs highlighted the deep divisions and the contentious nature of the proceedings in the Rajya Sabha.

The events of the day are likely to have significant political repercussions, as both sides continue to accuse each other of undermining democratic processes and constitutional values. The focus now shifts to how these tensions will be managed in future sessions and whether any reconciliation or common ground can be found.
