The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is preparing to file a chargesheet today in the Pahalgam terror attack case, where 26 individuals were killed by terrorists affiliated with Pakistan-based groups. The anti-terror agency plans to submit the chargesheet to a special court in Jammu on this date.

This development follows nearly seven months after the NIA arrested two individuals accused of providing shelter to the terrorists responsible for the horrific attack, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent tourists and severely injured 16 others.

The arrested individuals, Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar from Batkote in Pahalgam and Bashir Ahmad Jothar from Hill Park in Pahalgam, have reportedly revealed the identities of the three armed terrorists who executed the attack. According to their disclosures, the perpetrators were Pakistani nationals linked to the banned terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

Investigations by the NIA indicate that Parvaiz and Bashir deliberately harboured the three armed terrorists at a seasonal dhok (hut) located in Hill Park prior to the incident. The pair allegedly supplied the terrorists with food, shelter, and essential logistical assistance. On that fateful afternoon, the attackers selectively targeted and killed tourists based on their religious identity, marking the incident as one of the most brutal terrorist assaults in recent history.

The NIA has charged the duo under Section 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and continues its probe into the case (RC-02/2025/NIA/JMU), which was registered following the globally condemned attack on April 22.

In a prior development in July, a coordinated operation involving the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force, and Jammu and Kashmir Police resulted in the elimination of three terrorists—Suleman, Hamza Afghani (an Afghan national), and Zibran—during Operation Mahadev in the Dachigam area of Kashmir.

Suleman, classified as an 'A' category commander of LeT, had been involved in terrorist attacks in both Pahalgam and Gagangir. Similarly, Hamza Afghani and Zibran were 'A' category LeT terrorists responsible for the killings of innocent civilians in Baisaran Valley.
