The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has intensified its probe into the communal violence that erupted during Ram Navami celebrations in West Bengal last year, with the recent arrest of 11 more individuals allegedly involved in the conspiracy.

This development follows the earlier arrest of 16 persons by the NIA in connection with the six cases transferred to the agency last year.

The arrests come as a significant breakthrough in the investigation, shedding light on the orchestrated attacks against a particular community during a procession in Shibpur, Howrah, on March 30, 2023.

Utilizing video footages from various locations, the NIA identified the accused and unveiled crucial evidence leading to their apprehension.

The 11 arrested individuals, hailing from Shibpur, Howrah, have been identified as Shamim Ahmed alias Bare, Balwant Singh, Mehmud Alam, Mehfooz Alam alias Sonu, Shamshad Alam alias Danish, Mohammad Ali alias Suraj, Salim Jawed alias Jawad, Sarfaraz Alam alias Lalan, Firoj Khan, Md. Sameer Ansari alias Raj, and Shamshad Hussain alias Shamshad Ali alias Raja.

Initially registered by the West Bengal Police against 36 individuals following the violent incident at 4th By Lane, PM Basti, Shibpur, Howrah, the case was transferred to the NIA by the Calcutta High Court on April 27 last year.

The agency's rigorous investigation has unearthed critical evidence, resulting in the recent arrests and bolstering the ongoing pursuit of justice.

The NIA's swift action underscores its commitment to unraveling the truth behind the communal clashes and holding the perpetrators accountable. With meticulous scrutiny of video evidence and comprehensive inquiries, the agency continues to make strides in bringing those responsible for instigating violence to justice.

The arrests mark a significant step towards restoring peace and harmony in the affected communities and upholding the rule of law. As the investigation progresses, the NIA remains steadfast in its mission to ensure justice for the victims and their families affected by the Ram Navami violence in West Bengal.
