A widowed mother has claimed she was forced to leave her rented home in Noida with her 15-year-old daughter after facing repeated police visits and public harassment following the teenager's alleged derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.
The mother said the family relocated two days ago as people and police personnel continued visiting their residence despite her daughter's public apology and the Prime Minister's remarks indicating he wanted to forgive the protesting students.
"My daughter has apologised and the Prime Minister has forgiven her. Please stop hounding us. I am raising her alone after my husband's death in 2019. We just want to live peacefully," she said.
The teenager, a Class 10 student, allegedly made the remarks during the anti-NEET protest at Jantar Mantar. A Zero FIR was registered by the Noida Police under provisions relating to insult, public mischief and defamation before being transferred to the Delhi Police.
In a video circulated on August 1, the girl apologised, calling it her "first and last mistake". She claimed she was influenced by people at the protest site who were allegedly making similar remarks against the Prime Minister.
The mother said neighbours informed her that unidentified people in black vehicles and Uttar Pradesh Police personnel were still visiting their house even after they had moved out.
She also questioned why the case was transferred to Delhi despite her daughter's apology, expressing concern that her family could face further harassment.
The family has also raised questions over the girl's age after the Zero FIR reportedly mentioned her birth year as 1994, while her mother maintained she was born in 2011 and is only 15 years old.
Delhi Police said it has not yet converted the transferred Zero FIR into a regular FIR. Police sources indicated that legal opinion is being sought and the case may not proceed further, though a separate Cyber Cell investigation into derogatory social media posts targeting the Prime Minister and other constitutional functionaries is continuing.
The controversy stems from the recent CJP-led protests at Jantar Mantar, during which Delhi Police registered multiple cases related to violence and damage to public property. Authorities have maintained that peaceful student protesters would not face action unless they were involved in violence or had criminal antecedents.
