PM Anwar Ibrahim Hails India Malaysia Partnership As True Friendship.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, during his state visit to India, expressed deep admiration for the relationship between India and Malaysia, calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi his brother. Ibrahim emphasised that there are numerous areas where both nations can further strengthen their ties.

Speaking at a joint press conference with PM Modi, Anwar Ibrahim described India as a significant and influential nation. He highlighted that the two countries engage in discussions as true brothers, addressing all issues openly, whether they are sensitive or not. This, he said, is the essence of true friendship.

The Malaysian Prime Minister shared that his bond with PM Modi extends beyond their official roles. He mentioned that even before he assumed office as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi had shown him great kindness. This personal connection, he believes, is now reflected in the strong and growing partnership between the two countries.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi announced that India and Malaysia have elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This marks a significant step in deepening cooperation across various sectors.

Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged the progress made in the meetings held during his visit. He pointed out that both leaders have agreed to expand their cooperation, particularly in areas that have not been fully explored in recent years. He expressed regret that more had not been done in the past but looked forward to a more dynamic partnership moving forward.

The Malaysian Prime Minister emphasised the importance of collaboration between Indian and Malaysian companies. He highlighted new and challenging areas such as energy transition, digitalization, and food security as key sectors where cooperation could be mutually beneficial.

Ibrahim also pointed out Malaysia’s role as a hub for semiconductors in Southeast Asia and invited Indian companies to explore partnerships in this field.

Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to India marks his first since taking office as Malaysia’s Prime Minister. Upon his arrival in New Delhi, he was warmly welcomed by Union Minister of State V Somanna.

As part of his visit, Ibrahim paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi by laying a wreath at Rajghat. He also signed the visitor’s book at the site, marking his respect for India’s rich history and cultural heritage.
