Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Thursday that preparations for Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir have begun and that the Union territory will soon regain its statehood.

While addressing a media gathering here, he said his government is committed to the development of Jammu and Kashmir.

At an event after laying the foundation stone and inaugurating 84 developmental projects worth ₹1,500 crore in Srinagar, Modi said the government was taking the recent terror attacks very seriously.

"The Centre has taken the recent terror attacks very seriously. The home minister held a meeting and reviewed the entire mechanism,” he added.

Praising the youth of Jammu and Kashmir for the high turnout in the recent Lok Sabha polls, Modi stated, "They have ensured the victory of democracy."

He also reflected on the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, stating, "The wall of Article 370 collapsed, and the fruits of the Indian Constitution were ensured in Jammu and Kashmir." Today, the Indian Constitution has truly been implemented in Jammu and Kashmir."

Modi highlighted the challenges faced by the region by forces opposing peace and development. "Today, the forces inimical to peace and development are making last-ditch efforts to stop the progress of Jammu and Kashmir," he added.

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister assured the people of the region of the government's commitment to establishing peace.

"I want to assure you that we will leave no stone unturned to punish the enemies of Jammu and Kashmir. Permanent peace will be established in Jammu and Kashmir," he affirmed.

He is here to lead the 10th International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21 at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre.
