J&K elections: EC to issue notification for 24 seats today

The first phase had 16 seats in the Kashmir division and eight in the Jammu division.

Jammu and Kashmir is heading for assembly elections after a decade, the process will start today with the issuance of notification by the Election Commission for the first phase of voting in 24 Assembly constituencies. 

 

Chief Electoral Officer PK Pole said on Monday, "The notification for the first phase of polling will be issued tomorrow."

 

Nomination papers can be filed in the designated officers' offices until August 27. 

 

The documents will be scrutinised on August 28 and the last date for withdrawal is August 30. The voting will take place on September 18.

 

The first phase had 16 seats in the Kashmir division and eight in the Jammu division.  

 

The constituencies going to poll include Bhaderwah, Doda, Doda West, Inderwal, Kishtwar, Padder-Nagseni, Ramban and Banihal of Jammu. 


The Kashmir constituencies are Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Rajpora, Zainapora, Shopian, DH Pora, Kulgam, Devsar, Dooru, Kokernag, Anantnag West, Anantnag, Srigufwara-Bijbehara, Shangus-Anantnag East and Pahalgam. 

 

He said the nomination papers could be filed at the Office of Additional DC Bhaderwah, ACR Doda, and Assar for the constituencies concerned. The final list of officers for Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban will be issued today. 

 

The final electoral rolls of Jammu and Kashmir are going to be published today.

 

There are at present 87.09 lakh voters who shall vote through 11,838 polling stations in urban and rural areas. 

 

Security arrangements are being finalised for all 90 seats and political leaders. Major political parties have not yet announced their candidates. 

 

The turnout of the Assembly elections is expected to be more than the Parliamentary elections held earlier this year.
