An IndiGo flight made an emergency landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday after reporting a suspected engine failure, officials said.
Flight 6E 579, travelling from Visakhapatnam to Delhi, was carrying 161 passengers and crew members when one of its engines reportedly developed a technical issue mid-air, prompting the pilots to seek priority landing.
A full emergency was declared at the airport as a precautionary measure, with Runway 28 cleared to ensure a smooth and safe landing under standard safety protocols.
According to the Delhi Fire Services, information about the situation was received at around 10:53 am, following which fire tenders were rushed to the airport to remain on standby.
Officials said the aircraft landed safely without any incident. “All are safe and no damage has been reported,” the fire department said in a statement, confirming that the emergency response was activated purely as a precaution.
Airport authorities and emergency teams remained on alert throughout the operation, ensuring that all necessary safety measures were in place.
After landing, passengers were safely disembarked and assisted by airline staff as well as the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) operations team.
Authorities said the situation was handled in accordance with established aviation safety procedures. Further checks of the aircraft are expected to be carried out to ascertain the exact cause of the suspected engine issue.
The timely response by the flight crew and ground authorities ensured that the incident concluded without any injuries or damage.
